Keeping Rabbits warm and dry

These are our ideas for keeping the rabbits warm and dry.

  • We need to make sure they can get into the hutch. (Mac)
  • We need to give the rabbits some hay or straw.(Nia/Lola)
  • We could give the rabbits a blanket.(Alex)
  • We could add a piece of soft carpet.(Aimee)
  • We could block a piece of the hutch off and we could make a door.(Trey)
  • We need to look and see if the hutch has a door. (Banx)
  • We could check if the rabbits have room to snuggle up together.(Mac)
  •  There needs to be an opening for us to clean the hutch.

Water for the Rabbits

We saw Charlotte and Phoebe were using a watering can to water their plants. We thought this is a good idea and we could borrow the it. They got it from Mr Shane so we knew it was a school watering can. Jaidden and Airfaan filled it up from the sink tap and Jaidden poured  the water into the rabbit water containers.

Water for the Rabbits

These are our ideas about how we can provide water for the rabbits.
  • we need clean water
  • we could get water from the water fountain
  • we could get water from the cooking room
  • we will need to tip the dirty water out
  • we could use the closest tap and get the water from the Room 3 sink
  • we will need a container for the water like a cup, bowl, drink bottle, jug, jar, or a water gun
  • we need to check it every day

Inquiry Question

We have a new inquiry question because yesterday Mr Shane came along when we were feeding the rabbits and he asked about the rabbit's water.  Room 3 thought it was Mr Shane's job to look after the water. Our teacher was wondering why is it Mr Shane's job.  We are TEAM players and this term we are doing T Trust. Our trust is  taking responsibility for the Rabbits so should Mr Shane be looking after the water?   We will need to think of ways we could help.

I wonder what other vegetables we could give the rabbits. We will need to find out some more information about vegetables.

Grandparent Descriptions.....Do you recognize these Grandparents?

Koro is cool. He looks old because he looks different. He looks like a dinosaur one. His eyes look like mine. His hair is short like mine. He has a happy mouth that's because he likes me.

Granddad is tall and happy. He has white hair and has stripes on his shirt and on his pants. Granddad wears glasses when he reads and gives me lots of cuddles.

Granddad has black hair like a sideways 'c' and white legs.  He has a big nose and a big smile because he hasn't seen us for a long time. He likes seeing us because he misses us.

My Nana has  a red jacket.  She likes to wear blue pants with a white stripe.  She has two brown eyes and she has red cheeks.  She is too old because she looks like she is a bit old.  She got lots of wrinkles.

Nana has blond hair with a fringe and black eyes and dark, white skin and I love Nana.  Nana's face has lines when she smiles.  She wears different earrings. She wears giraffe earrings and zebra earrings and she has silver earrings. She wears colourful polka dot clothes.

Nana is white and skinny and has a big, huge smile. It goes up to the top of her hair.

Nana has black hair and a big smile. She has black clothes.  My Mum was born from her.  She  has got some wrinkles because she is a little bit old. She has earrings. They are gold.

Papa has curly hair. He has cool clothes like singing clothes. They are like rock star clothes. His eyes are wide open. He has big smiles. He can't change it.

Nana has a squashed face because she wants it like that. She plays like that.  Nana has short black hair. She has grown bigger for her birthday.

My Nanny smiles a lot. My Nanny has short hair and sounds nice on the phone. I miss my Nanny.

A Special Visit to Nanny and Koro

Today we read another grandparent story called 'A Special Visit to Koro and Nanny'  by Herehere Titoko and illustrated by Jennifer Cooper.  We did ' think, pair, share' to discuss our ideas.  This helps us with our comprehension of the story.  We learnt a new word; 'kaitiaki' which are the stars. Photography for the Digi Awards

We are learning to take photos for the Digi Award competition later this year.  We read a book called 'Winston'. The book was about Winston visiting the beach for the first time. It had real photos of Winston at the beach. We talked about what we liked about the photos.

  • We liked the close up photos.
  • We liked the photo of Winston's ear sticking up.
  • We liked it when there were other things in the photos like Winston's stick or a piece of driftwood.
  • We liked  it when Winston was facing different ways. He had his head on the side and there was a  photo from the back when he was looking at the water.
  • We liked the sunlight shining into the forest.

Matariki

Whaea Golda read us a story about Matariki by Waitangi  Teepa and illustrated by Thaw Naing.   Matariki is the name of a group of seven stars and it is also the name of the Maori New Year. You can see the stars for most of the year but they disappear from the night sky in late April and appear again in winter in late May or early June.

We can celebrate Matariki in different ways.

We celebrated Liani's stories about Maori bread/Rawena.  She told us about  how her Mum's friend taught her Mum (Amelia)  to make it.  She talked about having it on the Marae. She also talked about how her Mum made it.  Amelia made some Rawena for Room 3. Liani said a Karakia and served the bread.  Kia Ora Liani.

The Kuia and the Spider

We have been reading a story called 'Kuia and the Spider' by Patricia Grace.

This is helping us with our inquiry about 'Grandparents'.  It is helping us think of some new questions for our inquiry.  We want to know how do the kete's get to be two different colours and how do they get the writing on them like in the story.

We also want to know where is the story set. We think the story is at a kohanga or a Marae.
